Case study · Reconstruction and restoration

Rebuilding the website while preserving its identity.

For the Association des décorés des Arts et des Lettres, chaired by Rodolphe Oppenheimer, we rebuilt the existing page and brought it back online. The project focused on technical restoration and reproducing the original appearance: the design, images and text already existed.

The starting point

The project context.

The website introduces the association, its chairman and its purpose: creating a space for exchange among representatives of the arts and culture. Its single page combines a large opening image, an introduction to Rodolphe Oppenheimer, the journal cover and the chairman’s message. These elements had to be preserved during reconstruction.

Restored website

The same visual identity, with a rebuilt technical foundation.

Actual screenshot of the public website on 21 September 2026. The layout, visuals and text already existed; 2Cafés faithfully rebuilt them and brought the site back online.

The challenges

What needed to be addressed.

  1. 01

    Preserving an existing composition

The portrait, emblems, green and gold colours and typography create a recognisable identity. We needed to reproduce the layout, hierarchy and proportions.

  2. 02

    Rebuilding a self-contained foundation

The existing page’s text, images and fonts served as references for rebuilding the site, with its assets included in the new project.

  3. 03

Checking the reproduction on mobile as well

Fidelity extended to the details: heading line breaks, section heights, journal cover and footer. Desktop and mobile versions were compared with the reference.

What we did

The work, step by step.

  • Inventoried the existing page’s public content and assets: text, three content images, icons and fonts.

  • Rebuilt the page using React and Vite, with the images and fonts included in the project.

  • Faithfully reproduced the page’s four parts: opening image, chairman’s identity, introductory text and footer.

  • Compared desktop and mobile views, then adjusted typography, dimensions and footer behaviour.

  • Backed up the project and prepared a static version served by Nginx on the client’s hosting.

  • Relaunched the association’s domain, configured HTTPS and redirected to the www address.

  • Checked the published site: page and assets accessible, images loaded, and desktop and mobile display verified.

Technical restoration

Rebuild, compare, relaunch.

The work followed a precise reference: the existing page. Each section was rebuilt, compared on desktop and mobile, then included in a self-contained version ready for hosting.

  • React and Vite page

A rebuilt introductory page organised around the opening image, identity, chairman’s message and footer.

  • Local assets

The images and fonts are bundled with the site. The retained project can be used to build and deploy the reconstruction.

  • Checked launch

The static version is served by Nginx. The HTTPS certificate, domain redirect and asset loading were checked at delivery.

For visitors

What you find when you arrive.

  1. 01

    Identity from the first screen

The large image brings together Rodolphe Oppenheimer’s portrait and the Arts et Lettres emblems, following the original website’s layout.

  2. 02

    The chairman’s message preserved

The association’s introduction and journal cover retain their place on the page and their existing typographic hierarchy.

  3. 03

    A website accessible over HTTPS

The public address displays the restored page. Checks on 21 September 2026 confirmed that all three images loaded and that there was no horizontal overflow on desktop.

Who visits, and why

  • Discovering the association

Identify its chairman and read about its cultural purpose and its wish to bring members of the Order together.

  • Finding familiar landmarks

Recognise the images, colours and content already associated with the organisation, on a page whose presentation has been preserved.

  • A foundation for future work

For the association, retain a rebuilt project and delivered version that can serve as a starting point for future work.

Documented result

Preserving the website that introduces the association.

The result concerns reproducing the website and restoring public access. No increase in traffic, membership or awareness was measured as part of this project.

  1. 01

    An identity preserved

The site regains its layout and content, including the portrait, emblems and chairman’s message. The original graphic design remains that of the previous website.

  2. 02

    A rebuilt project

The reconstruction has its own source files, images and local fonts, along with a backed-up release version.

  3. 03

    Public presence restored

The restoration was delivered on 27 August 2026. The association’s domain serves the page over HTTPS, redirecting to its main address.
